The European Commission has approved the proposed $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance, on the condition that Paramount divests its stake in United International Pictures (UIP) — the co-distribution alliance with Universal in 19 EEA territories — within thirteen months. Additionally, Paramount is prohibited from entering into a new co-distribution agreement with Universal or Disney in the former UIP markets for ten years, with an independent trustee overseeing compliance. However, the merger remains blocked in the United States, where a federal judge in California has temporarily halted the transaction and a hearing is scheduled for August 3.
