As of January 1, 2027, ARD and ZDF are implementing a fundamental restructuring in which the linear channels ARD Alpha, Tagesschau24, and ONE will be discontinued and replaced by three joint digital brands: Phoenix for news, Neo for young adults, and Info for documentaries. This stems from a new German media treaty that mandates cooperation and a digital focus, while 21 radio stations will also disappear. The reform marks a deliberate strategic choice for streaming and digital distribution over linear television, placing the ongoing Dutch discussion regarding the future of NPO 3 in a broader European perspective.
