A male (20-25) actor to play the existential ICARUS in this one man short film. ICARUS is overly ambitious and blinded by his desire to become like a god after he experienced flight. Stranded on a beach he attempts to craft new wings and grapple with the decision to accept a mortal life or take other measures to be satisfied. Actor must be toned and comfortable to be shirtless on screen. The film involves a scene with water and so the actor must be a confident swimmer. The role is mostly silent and so acting with the body is crucial, however there is an emotional monologue in the film as well. The actor will be wearing black feather wings and linen pants/ toga.

MARTIN THE CHARACTER Martin (mid-20s) is the main protagonist of the movie, a vulnerable narcissist. He prefers to think he is all that so he tries to pretend that every sign that says otherwise is non-existent, that is why he sometimes comes off as dull and ignorant. He is not actually dull, he can be very quick thinking and witty, verbally very capable, but he is bullheaded and unwilling to change. He has a tremendous fear of rejection and a deep desire for a partner at any cost, but he is in fact not curious about what that partner is actually like. He is persistent to achieve his goals and also has tendencies to act manipulatively. He is not entirely unsuccessful with women, he can get dates, he just can’t keep any. He doesn’t shy away from grand romantic gestures, he thinks of himself as a deeply romantic person. IN RELATION TO THE WITCHY GIRL He is primarily interested in the witchy girl because he finds her appearance attractive, he does not necessarily feel interested in learning more about her personality. She, as any girl, is a potential vessel he can fill out with his own thoughts about the world. He finds her really weird, but decides that it is a correctable mistake. He honestly tries to help and he honestly thinks that what he feels is love, and at a point he also starts to fancy himself as the saviour of the witchy girl, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to actually be caring. HIS PHILOSOPHY He is a simple guy in that he does not give a lot of second thoughts to the meaning of things once he thinks he figured out something. HIS ROLE Protagonist in the story structure, antagonist in what he represents. He often is the butt of the joke, the audience should be able to feel sorry for him and be able to cheer for him to a certain degree to become a better person. In this sense, the story is a tragedy and a cautionary tale, because he fails in that. He is also the investigator, the eye of the audience through which they discover the mystery around the witchy girl. CHARACTERS RECOMMENDED FOR INSPIRATION: Jeff Winger, Johnny Bravo, Bruce Campbell, Tony (from Doctor Parnassus).

The characters: • Jackie, (our protagonist, mid-20’s) Jackie is ambitious, albeit in a slightly self-destructive way. She’s more than willing to put her research before her own well-being. She’s stubborn and has a false sense of control over the situations she finds herself in. • Jade, (the mystery girl, mid-20’s) Jade is very much a mystery to the audience (and Jackie!) that slowly unfolds. The mysterious nature of her appearances turn her into somewhat of a mythical figure, and Jackie is desperate to find out more about her. We find out there's a whole lot more about her than meets te eye... • Cait, (Jackie’s best friend, mid-20’s) Cait is worried for Jackie’s health, however she knows there’s really no stopping her when she has her mind set on something, especially something as important to her as this. She provides words of reason that fall onto not-listening ears.
